Confederation Homestead

Looking for a quiet, private place to get away from the city for a while for a family break or a romantic retreat? Try our 36-acre farm, surrounded by forest, with its own pond, entirely private and quiet. It comes with a lovely heritage-log-pioneer home which is a wonderful cross between visiting our past history, tastefully decorated with period antiques, and the loving and tasteful updates of modern convenience. Situated in the scenic locale of Haliburton County in Ontario, it is a 2-3  hour drive from Toronto or 4 1/2 hours from Ottawa. Available for rentals year round.

This 3-bedroom-winterized home sleeps a maximum of 6 and comes with a wood fireplace, 4-piece bath including a jacuzzi-soaker tub, full kitchen including dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker and coffee grinder, toaster, kettle, dishes, cutlery, pots, pans and baking dishes. It has a wrap-around deck with a screened gazebo for enjoying the outdoors without the bugs, and a propane barbeque. There are 3 comfy double beds, and one twin size bed all with lovely comforters and pillows (you need to provide your own linens). We offer complimentary Fair Trade Kicking Horse brand coffee, and a variety of teas which you can make to go along with your meals.

The pond comes with a row boat and oars and has a floating dock. It has a sand entrance for easy swimming and boating access. In the winter, once the pond has frozen well (January – February, depending on the winter, sometimes earlier or later), you can skate or play hockey. There are snowshoes provided for treks around the property. The property is situated only 40 minutes from the famous Sir Sam’s Ski facility.

In addition, if the weather is inclement, or after a day of enjoying outdoors, or relaxing on the deck, you can entertain yourself by watching the 37″ HD flat-screen TV with satellite service, or watch DVDs with the BlueRay DVD player. Bring your own DVDs or enjoy one of the discs on site. There are many games available to play with the family indoors or outdoors, including badminton, a horseshoe pit, and bookcases with a variety of books for adults and children.

If you subscribe to Bell home internet service which provides some dial-up access as part of your package, there is a local dial-up access number or,  free Wi-Fi service is available 7 km away at the Minden Public Library, which is available 24/7, inside or outside the library.
Well-behaved pets are welcome. Smoking is permitted outside only.

The cottage is equipped for the handicapped with numerous grab bars in strategic places and a portable ramp.

During the summer minimum rental is one week, in the off-season you may rent by the weekend (minimum two nights), daily or by the week or month. In the off-season discounts are available for monthly rentals.
