Minden

The town of Minden is a delightful gem. Things you need to go far and wide to find in the city, you can often find readily at the local grocery stores Foodland and ValuMart (including international foods), plus seasonally the Minden Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Market from spring to late fall, the Home Hardware is a treasure of many things including the usual hardware items, a lumber yard, household items, garden centre, paint centre, and BBQ units and accessories, as well as knowledgeable staff.

You must visit the local butcher store, Coneybeare’s, now being run by the 5th generation family member, the smart, young and friendly Lily Coneybeare, at 10 Milne Street. They have excellent meat. It is a hidden gem. There is the V&S, a general store with things from fabrics, household goods, clothes, shoes, occasion cards and much more. The PhamaSave which expanded its offerings and space a few years ago has whatever you may need from personal care to medications, and mobility devices, as well as photo development.

Restaurants: Anything from delicious Thai Food at Suwan’s Thai (make reservations at busy times), Reflections – casual dining, Chinese at Mark’s Chinese Restaurant. There is a local award-winning brewery Boshkung on Water Street, the Minden 50’s Diner. Just about anything for every taste.

There are of course the well-known, Canadian Tire and Tim’s (Tim Horton’s coffee and sandwich shop), the LCBO and The Beer Store. There are two banks, TD Canada Trust and C.I.B.C.

There is even a bowling alley in Minden…did you know that? The Fast Lane  You need to call and reserve. 5 pin bowling.

Visit the local Farmer’s Markets May – October: Minden on Saturday morning, Haliburton Village on Tuesdays, Fridays at Stanhope.

Visit the local agricultural fairs throughout the summer, Minden, Kinmount, Wilberforce, the annual Maple Syrup festivals, dog sledding, truck and track pulls. Many events go on in the Haliburton County area. Lots of fun and good times.

The area is home to many artisans and in the fall there is an annual studio tour.

You don’t need to haul everything from the city. Please patronize our local businesses. Come and explore the town. You won’t be disappointed and will be pleasantly surprised by what you will discover.
